Onboarding Survey Questions
Onboarding survey questions reveal what new customers expected, where they got stuck, and whether the first steps helped them reach a useful result.

Questions about expectations
- What were you hoping to accomplish first?
- What would make this setup successful for you?
- Which part of the product were you most interested in?
Questions about the first steps
- How easy was it to get started?
- Did you know what to do next?
- Where did you get stuck?
- What information was missing?
- How confident do you feel using the product now?
Questions about first value
- Have you reached the result you came for?
- Which step helped you most?
- What would have made the first session better?
How to adapt
Send after a meaningful first action, not immediately after account creation. Keep “setup” separate from “value” so the answers show whether the problem is learning the flow or reaching the outcome.
The activation survey questions help when you already know the first behavior that matters.
Next step
Choose one first-value event, ask four short questions, and compare responses from customers at different stages of onboarding.
